It’s new, it's medieval and it’s all very silly….
A hidden monastery in the depths of England’s depths?
A secret that could rock the church to its core?
A trail of clues that can only be interpreted by an expert?
This all sounds rather familiar….
Except the expert is Brother Hermitage, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
Called once more by King William - who doesn’t even know what he’s calling for - Hermitage, Cwen and Wat the weaver set off to deal with the greatest mystery of all. A mystery that has been protected and guarded for years by a secret brotherhood sworn by awful oaths.
A mystery only known to a priest who now happens to be dead.
A mystery hidden in a monastery that isn’t even supposed to exist.
A mystery of such value that the unscrupulous and greedy are also after it, and these particular unscrupulous and greedy know Brother Hermitage very well indeed.
Will all be revealed in a satisfactory manner?
Will the convoluted trail lead to a revelation of staggering significance?
Hardly. This is a Chronicle of Brother Hermitage, after all….
CAUTION Not for the historically humourless.
Howard of Warwick has previous form...
“Absolutely hilarious” 5*
“I laughed, I had tears running down my face” 5*
“Stupid” 1*
Need I say more... you have been warned.
The Case of The Clerical Cadaver The Chronicles of Brother Hermitage Book 7 edition by Howard of Warwick Literature Fiction eBooks
In the Case of the Clerical Cadaver, Howard of Warwick has written another hilarious misadventure, featuring Hermitage, (a monk and King William the Conqueror's Investigator into missing persons and murders) and Hermitage's entourage: Wat the Weaver of pornographic tapestries and Cwyn, the surprising weaver's apprentice (because a girl couldn't be an apprentice in 1066--don't get mad at me, I had nothing to do with the law back then). The clueless monk is fortunate to be in the company of the worldly wise Wat and the wise-cracking Cwyn, since Hermitage is defenseless against those who commit murderous breaches of the King's Peace. It'll be a miracle if he figures out who was responsible for the cleric becoming a cadaver, before.... Well, read it for yourself. I'm no snitch.

The Case of The Clerical Cadaver The Chronicles of Brother Hermitage Book 7 edition by Howard of Warwick Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Once again, I have thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of Hermitage, Wat and Cwen!
Howard of Warwick has a delightful way of giving us a view into the life and ways of
England and its people after the Battle of Hastings. Normans rule, Saxons live in fear,
and Hermitage learns that everything in life is a lot more complicated than he ever expected.
Howard of Warwick is one of the best authors I have come across! I'm always checking to see if there is a new Hermitage and Wat adventure out there. Cn not wait until he publishes one...so much fun to read!
Another wonderful tale of the befuddled monk Brother Hermitage and his intrepid team of mystery solvers. I can not tell you how much I enjoy these wonderful stories. Full of wit, humor and downright belly laughs. These is always great anticipation for the next story. I love these so much that I often end up buying a hard copy of the book as well as the kindle version.
Same main characters, not as fleshed out as previous books, so would benefit from reading aforementioned previous books. The monastery buildings are a huge character in this book, and well done. Good story. I think part of the appeal of Howard's books is it's okay to laugh at the misery of fictional characters from long ago who make the average Americans life look luxurious. This one is not quite as snarky, which is ok.
Brother Hermitage has once more been summoned by the king to investigate a murder. This time it's a priest impaled on a sundial at a monastery that isn't supposed to exist. Secrets abound, and our fearless monk is trying to find them while facing possible death at the hands of the mysterious Trusted Brotherhood if he's successful. As usual, he's accompanied by Wat and Cwen. We even see some old friends (?) from Hermitage's earlier adventures. This a must read for fans of Hermitage. Thanks to Howard of Warwick for his hard work in the scriptorium as he unearths and transcribes ancient records of Hermitage's deeds!
Brother Hermitage has been summoned by King William to investigate the murder of a priest impaled on a sundial at a monastery that isn't supposed to exist. I found it a bit disheartening as Hermitage spent most of the book trying to uncover a secret of the monastery. No questions were asked trying to clarify the murder of who did it and why. Still, it was very humorous with the befuddled Hermitage and his friends and aids, Wat and Cwen.
I am really enjoying this series of books. They are witty and fun and almost a stream of consciousness as we consider the mulling thoughts of Brother Hermitage, Wat, and Cwen, the main characters of these uncharacteristic mysteries. I particularly like the subtle introduction of old English with equally subtle explanations of their meanings. No dictionaries needed. I like these so much that after reading the first two I ordered the rest of them so I wouldn't have to miss a beat moving on in the story. I like reading them out loud to capture the flow of the words, sometimes smooth and lyrical, sometimes tongue twisters that rival Peter Piper and his pickled peppers. They are fun and easy to enjoy in your favorite reading spot.
